Course Content

This course is based on the HSE standard HSG 253 “The Safe Isolation of Plant and Equipment”

  • Isolation definitions
  • Risk assessment
  • Permit to work
  • Isolation procedures
  • Planning an isolation
  • Desktop exercises – using a ranking table to identify what level of isolation is required
  • Key stages of process isolation:
  • Vessel entry
  • Lock out and tag out
  • Line walk
  • Isolate plant and equipment
  • De-Isolate plant and equipment
  • Re-commissioning plant and equipment

Assessment

Delegates will undertake a multiple-choice examination paper to demonstrate they have achieved the key learning outcomes detailed above.

PPE Requirements

Safety footwear, coveralls, safety glasses, hard hat.
