Key Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the safe working practices and procedures of working on HV/LV switchgear
  • Understand the application of safe working procedures to HV/LV switchgear and protection relays
  • Ability to understand the operational functions and maintenance of HV systems
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to HV systems

Course Content

  • Electrical safety rules and Legislation including Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Safety documentation and equipment with regards to switchgear
  • Practical exercises on HV/LV Safe Isolation procedures, switchgear and transformers
  • Generator systems controls
  • Understanding and testing of protection relays
  • Fault finding on HV switchboards
  • HSE HV publications

Assessment

Delegates will undertake a multiple-choice examination paper to demonstrate they have achieved the key learning outcomes detailed above.

PPE Requirements

Safety footwear, coveralls, safety glasses and gloves.

Further Information

This course is classroom based with practical exercises using ASET’s High Voltage equipment to underpin knowledge gained.  This course is suitable up to 33kv.
