Prerequisites
Delegates are expected to be educated to HNC/HND level and have minimum 2 years' experience working in hazardous areas. If you do not meet these requirements, please contact our Customer Service Team who will assist you further.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Ex12A: meet the competency requirements of IEC 60079 -14 for ‘Designers (design & selection)’ for the design of Non-Intrinsically Safe electrical equipment installations in explosive atmospheres.
- Ex12B: meet the competency requirements of IEC 60079 -14 for ‘Designers (design & selection)’ for the design of Intrinsically Safe electrical equipment installations in explosive atmospheres.

- Legislation
- Standards and the certification process
- Explosive Atmospheres General Principles
- Area Classification
- Ex equipment marking
- How Concepts of protection work from a Designers perspective
- ATEX and IECEx Equipment Protection levels (EPL)
- Assemblies and hybrid concepts
- Detailed design and Installation Practices (Electrical and I.S) in accordance with IEC 60079-14
- Intrinsic Safety System Design – this is a very detailed part of the course
- A review of a selection of electrical and I.S. equipment and systems
- Documentation
Assessment
The course includes four separate exams (core paper, marking paper, design paper and standards paper) which take approximately seven hours in total.
