The UK energy sector is evolving rapidly — and for skilled professionals in oil and gas, now is the ideal time to explore new opportunities in renewable and low-carbon industries. To support this transition, the Oil & Gas Transition Training Fund, launched on 23 July 2025, offers fully funded access to approved training. Whether you're retraining in electrical engineering (HV/LV), working towards CompEx certification, or building your knowledge of renewable energy systems, ASET is here to deliver the training you need to move forward.
The Oil & Gas Transition Training Fund is funded by the UK Government and delivered by Skills Development Scotland (SDS). It’s designed to support individuals from the oil and gas sector (and its supply chain) to retrain for roles in the renewables and clean energy economy.
The fund allows you to build a customised training plan that supports your career transition. From electrical safety to hazardous area compliance and renewable energy systems, ASET’s courses are ready to help you upskill.
Visit transitiontrainingfund.scot/register to create a user account. You'll answer questions about your eligibility, and the system will guide you through the initial steps of building your personalised Programme of Training.
Once you provide all required documentation, your application will be passed to an SDS Adviser within 2 working days. Within 5 working days, they’ll contact you to finalise your training package and confirm eligibility.
You’ll also need to:
Provide evidence supporting your training choice
Submit training cost details from your chosen provider (like ASET)
SDS may ask your provider to confirm accreditation and training quality
Once your application is approved, you must:
Confirm your training package within 14 days
Begin training within one month of booking
Complete all training by 31 March 2026
To be eligible for the fund, you must:
Be a resident of Aberdeen City or Aberdeenshire, or live elsewhere in Scotland but work for an employer with an Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire office.
Be currently working in the oil and gas sector or its supply chain, or have been employed in the sector within the past 24 months.
Be able to show that your training plan will improve your chances of working in the renewables or clean energy sector.
If you’re returning to work after a career break, you may still be eligible. Contact SDS to discuss your situation.
The funding must be used for training that directly supports your transition into renewables, low-carbon energy, or clean technology roles. At ASET, that includes high-impact technical training in:
