This is a digital online course which you can access from any location as long as you have internet access. The flexibility and convenience of digital online learning allows you to work through your training course at your own pace. Confirmation of your booking and the log in details for your digital online course will be sent to the email address provided at the time of booking within 24 hours.
Please note booking confirmations and log in details will only be issued Monday – Friday between the hours of 08:15 – 16:30.
Logins are valid for 14 days from the date you are issued your username and password.

Instructions on how to access the digital online course will be issued with your username and password.
Course Structure
This digital online course consists of a Course Introduction followed by individual “Lesson Sections”. Upon completion of each “Lesson Section” you will be taken through a brief multiple choice question and answer session to confirm you have understood the learning subjects within that section. Once you have completed all “Lesson Sections” the final part of the assessment consists of an online multiple choice examination to demonstrate that you have achieved the required learning outcomes.
Target Audience
Personnel with electrical, instrument or mechanical background within industry who require a basic understanding of HV/LV safe working practices.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Gain an understanding of switchgear elements and operations.
- Understand the requirements of pre-prepared switching and isolation programmes.
- Gain an awareness of Health and Safety procedures involved in safe isolation of HV/LV equipment.

- HSE and Electricity at Work Regulations
- Task Risk Assessments
- Authorisations
- Effects of faults on switchgear
- Permit to Work systems
- Switchgear types nd principles of operation
- Generation of switching and isolation programmes
- Overview of HV/LV Protection Relays with practical demonstration of Relay Discrimination Scheme
Assessment
Each delegate will undertake an open book multiple-choice examination to demonstrate they have achieved the key learning outcomes detailed above.
