Target Audience

Personnel who will be involved in Ballast Control operations and who satisfy the entry requirements detailed below, and who need to progress to the Ballast Control Simulator course.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • To provide an understanding of the response of column-stabilised floating units to loading and environmental forces and damage control.

Course Content:

  • Hydrostatic parameters
  • List and trim
  • Damaged stability
  • Deck loading
  • Motions in a seaway
  • Mooring system effects
  • Ballast control
  • Operating procedures
  • Daily loading reports.


Each delegate will undertake a multiple-choice examination to demonstrate they have achieved the key learning outcomes listed above.


• ASET International Oil & Gas Training Academy Certificate internationally recognized by the offshore industry. An ASET/IADC DIT Certificate will be issued on successful completion of this course and examination. The course meets the second part of the previous IADC Comprehensive Stability Programme ‘A’. The certificate issued will comply with the requirements of the United Kingdom and Canada; US Coast Guard (USCG) and the International Maritime Organization (lMO).

Required Instructor Qualification/Experience:

  • Class 1 (Master Mariner)
  • Class 2
  • Instructors accredited by IADC

Min/Max Number of Delegates:

3/8, course duration and times may vary depending on delegate numbers.

Special Requirements:

Delegates must provide ASET Stability Theory (Stability 1) Certificate prior to acceptance on the course, or possess STCW Deck certification, eg Officer of the Watch or higher.

Notes to Customers:

 • This course complies with the IMO requirement A.1079(28) for the selection and training
of Ballast Control Operators. This certificate will comply with regulations in the United Kingdom and Canada; US Coast Guard (USCG) and the International Maritime
• Organization (IMO). The completion of this course is a pre-requisite to gaining entry to the Ballast Control Simulator Course (Stability 3).
• Delegates will be required to pass an assessment prior to the issue of a certificate. Failure to meet these criteria will affect your Certification.
