About this course
Graduate engineers, supervisors and members of inspectorate requiring an appreciation of electrical equipment in potentially hazardous areas.
Practical Content 40% Theoretical Content 60%
To explain the basic principles of explosion protection including practical demonstrations, practical exercises and questionnaires.
The nature of flammable materials, area classification, gas/apparatus grouping, temperature classification, ambient temperatures/ratings and ingress protection.
• Types of protection Ex d, Exe, Ex n, Exp, Ex ia, ib & ic, Ex o, Ex q & Ex m
• Selection of apparatus, cables and cable glands to BS EN60079-14
• Inspection of apparatus to BS EN60079-17 using 'visual', 'close' and 'detailed' grades of inspection including appropriate rectification of faults
• Practical inspection exercises involving Ex d, Ex e & Ex n apparatus and also Ex i apparatus.
The majority of this course is practical hands on training delivered by fully qualified and experienced ex industry personnel using equipment replicated from the onshore and offshore oil and gas working environment. Teaching aids include: Power point presentations, questionnaires, practical examples and demonstrations.
City & Guilds SCQF Credit Rated & Leveled Certificate.
Candidates are required to supply their own PPE, i.e. coveralls, safety glasses and safety footwear
Required Instructor Qualification/Experience
Industrial experience with electrical and instrumentation equipment in potentially hazardous areas and CompEx Trainer/Assessor License.
