About this course
Target Audience
Engineers and technicians from a non-mechanical discipline requiring to gain an understanding and know-how in relation to the fundamentals of carrying out pressure testing. Mechanical engineers and technicians wishing to refresh or enhance their existing skills on pressure testing.
Key Learning Outcomes:
• Work safely and minimize risk at all times
• Prepare work area for Pressure Testing
• Test the performance and condition of mechanical plant.
• Understand Health and Safety issues related to Pressure Testing
• Understand the basic principles of Pressure Testing
Course Content
Pressure testing definitions and general requirements:
- Proof testing, strength testing and reinstatement leak testing explained
- Hydrostatic & pneumatic testing, applications
- National standards and codes of practice relating to pressure testing
- Hazards involved in pressure testing, risk reduction measures
- Testing standards, acceptance or rejection criteria
- Preparation for pressure testing, checklists, risk assessments, documentation requirements, instrument protection & system flushing, test equipment calibration (pressure gauges, chart recorders), using appropriate test medium
- Marking up P&Ids/Piping ISOs with test boundaries, preparing a test record pack establishing test pressure & duration requirements, determining the maximum permissible system operating pressures according to piping class
Assessment
Each delegate will undertake an open book multiple-choice examination paper to demonstrate they have achieved the key learning outcomes detailed above
Certification
City & Guilds 9841 Certificate
It is recommended that all personnel who attend this course attends the Pressure Testing for Technicians Refresher training course every 5 years.
Required Instructor Qualification/Experience
- SVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience
- A1 or equivalent Workplace Assessor.
- City & Guilds approved Training Instructor
Min/Max Number of Delegates Required per Event
3/6, course duration and times may vary depending on delegate numbers
