About this course
Personnel who are required to operate transmitters on Maritime Frequencies. This includes Offshore Radio Operators.
(Note: personnel who are only required to operate on Maritime VHF Frequencies might only require a Restricted Operators Certificate or a Short Range Certificate).
This Certificate provides a licence to operate as required by the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 for persons transmitting on Marine frequencies.
Course Length (Days)
9 inc exam
To enable personnel to acquire the competence, knowledge skills and legal requirements necessary to operate maritime radiotelephony equipment in all maritime bands, including maritime satellite bands.
- Safety of life at sea
- GMDSS communication procedures and regulations
- Operation of VHF/MF/HF radio equipment
- Operation of digital selective calling and Navtex equipment
- Knowledge of the Inmarsat maritime satellite system
- Operation of standard B , C and Fleet77 maritime satellite equipment
- E.P.I.R.B.s and S.A.R.T.s.
Classroom, wide range of radiotelephony equipment and computer based simulation programmes.
MCA General Operators Certificate (GMDSS).
Minimum Instructor Qualification/Experience
- GMDSS GOC Certificate, 3 years experience.
Min/Max Number of Delegates Required per Event
Times of Training
08:30 to 17:00.
Course duration and times may vary depending on delegate numbers.
