Target Audience

Electrical personnel involved with the operation and maintenance of power system protection schemes.

Course Aims

To promote a good understanding of the operating principles, techniques and setting procedures, including primary and secondary test methods for power system protection schemes. Provision of information and instruction in the safe operating procedures for electrical protection schemes, interpretation of protection fault indications and appropriate corrective actions, along with maintenance of HV and LV protection relays, are addressed.

  • Faults and fault levels
  • Principles of discrimination
  • Measurement
  • Earth fault and earth leakage protection
  • Differential protection
  • Generation protection
  • Transformer protection
  • Motor protection.

Delivery

The majority of this course is practical hands on training delivered by fully qualified and experienced ex industry personnel using equipment replicated from the onshore and offshore oil and gas working environment. This course uses a range of protective equipment.

Certification

City & Guilds  SCQF Level 6 Certificate.

Minimum Instructor Qualification/Experience

  • 5 years experience in electrical plant operations
  • Qualified to Authorised Electrical Person status
  • Presentation skills
  • A1 Workplace Assessor.

Min/Max Number of Delegates Required per Event

4/8.

Times of Training

08:30 to 16:30.
