About this course

Target Audience

Engineering personnel involved with power distribution networks, and the use of site operated switchgear, either onshore, offshore or onboard vessels.

Course Aims

To provide a safe procedure for isolation of interconnected distribution systems and to enable participants to determine standing load versus generation capability to maintain stability of the network.

  • Safety regulations HSAWA 74, EAW Regs 1989
  • Electric shock effects
  • First aid procedures
  • Permit to work systems
  • Authorisation levels
  • Effects of faults on switchgear
  • Switchgear types and principals of operation
  • Generator operation
  • Control and capability diagrams
  • Synchronization
  • Load flow and load stability
  • Practical exercises & simulator
  • HV/LV Protection Relays Overview.

Delivery

The majority of this course is practical hands on training delivered by fully qualified and experienced ex industry personnel using equipment replicated from the onshore and offshore oil and gas working environment. This course is delivered on a 'live' power switching network simulator

Certification

City & Guilds 0672 Certificate on successful completion of the following assessments:

  • D001 HV/LV (1) Assessment
  • D002 HV/LV (2) Assessment
  • D003 Questions.

Minimum Instructor Qualification/Experience

  • 5 years' experience in electrical plant operations
  • Qualified to Authorised Electrical Person status
  • Presentation skills
  • A1 Workplace Assessor.

Min/Max Number of Delegates Required per Event

3/12.

Course duration and times may vary depending on delegate numbers.

Special Requirements

Delegates are required to supply their own PPE.
